Is a sugar mummy or sugar daddy connection that asks for a registration fee real?
No. Paying a "connector" to be linked with a rich partner is a scam. After the registration fee come fees for photos, "verification" and meetings that never happen.
These adverts appear on social media, in WhatsApp and Telegram groups and on posters. They promise money, a car or a house in exchange for companionship, and ask for a small fee by M-Pesa to start.
Some go further and ask for intimate photos, which are then used for blackmail.
How to protect yourself
- Don't pay any fee to be connected with someone.
- Never send intimate photos to an agent or a stranger.
- Don't share your ID or M-Pesa details.
- Leave groups that promise easy money for companionship.
- Report the advert to the platform.
Frequently asked questions
- They sent me photos of the sugar mummy. Doesn't that prove the person exists?
- No. The photos are usually stolen from someone else's profile. A reverse image search often shows where they came from.
