How can I check if a WhatsApp number belongs to a scammer?
Search the number online, see whether it is linked to scam reports, and check the profile photo with a reverse image search. Finding nothing is a good sign, but not proof.
Scammers change numbers often, so a clean number does not mean an honest person. But a number that has been reported many times, or that is a virtual or foreign number pretending to be local, is a strong warning sign.
Veritaza checks the number together with the photos, messages, email and name, and puts all warning signs in one report.
How to check
- Search the number in quotes, with and without +256.
- Look for it in Facebook groups and on Jiji.
- Reverse image search the profile picture.
- Notice if the number is foreign but the person claims to be local.
Frequently asked questions
- Can Veritaza tell me who owns a number?
- No. Veritaza shows warning signs linked to the number, not the owner's address or family.
