Can a romance scammer be a real person and not a fake profile?
Yes. Some scammers use their own photos, their own name and even meet you in person, and the scam is still the same: a relationship built to get money out of you. A real face is not proof of honest intentions.
These cases are harder to spot because the usual checks (stolen photos, no video calls) come back clean. What gives them away is the money: loans that are never paid back, "business opportunities", a joint investment, a crisis that only you can solve.
Veritaza can still help: check 4 and check 6 search the name and username together with words like scam and fraud, and check 5 shows whether other people have checked the same photos or number and said the person asked them for money.
Signs even when the person is real
- Money comes up early and often, always with a good reason.
- You are asked to keep the relationship or the money secret from friends and family.
- There is always a reason why they cannot pay you back right now.
- Their life story has holes: a job that is hard to pin down, friends you never meet.
- Search their name and number with the word "scam". Repeat offenders often get named on forums and in the news.
Frequently asked questions
- Veritaza found no warning signs. Is the person honest then?
- It is a good sign, but not proof. No check catches every scammer, and a real person with bad intentions may have no record yet.
