Someone is threatening to share my private photos unless I pay. What should I do?
Do not pay, stop replying, keep the evidence and report it. Paying almost never ends it: the person usually asks for more.
This kind of blackmail often starts with a flirty chat or a video call that is secretly recorded. Then the person sends screenshots of your contact list and demands money by MoMo.
It is not your fault, and you are not alone. Blackmail is a crime and the police take it seriously.
What to do now
- Do not send any money.
- Stop replying, but do not delete the chat.
- Take screenshots of the profile, the number and the threats.
- Report and block the account on the platform.
- Report it to the police and the Cyber Security Authority.
Frequently asked questions
- Will they really send the photos?
- Some do, many do not. Paying does not make it less likely. Reporting the account to the platform quickly helps get it removed.
