Before you trust them, check for warning signs
Met someone online – on a dating app, through a sale on Jiji or Marketplace, a flat to rent or a job offer? Veritaza checks the person's photos, messages, phone number, email address, name and ID document, and shows you if there are signs of a scam.
₦2,500 per report
Veritaza looks for warning signs. It can't catch every scammer. If we find nothing, that's a good sign, but it's not proof.

How it works
You send us what you have: profile photos, the phone number, the email address, the name or username, bits of the messages and, if the person sent you one, a photo of their ID document.
You pay ₦2,500 by bank transfer.
We run seven checks and email you the link to your report, usually within a few minutes.
The seven checks
1. The photos
We look for the same photo elsewhere on the internet. Photos stolen from someone else are a classic sign of a scam.
2. The messages
We look for the same wording on the internet. Scammers often copy the same script and send it to lots of people.
3. Number and email
We check whether the number or the email address shows up on scam lists, whether the number is a virtual one and which country it's from.
4. Fraud cases and reports
We search news sites, forums and scam-warning sites for the name together with words like "fraud", "scam" and "arrested", with a link so you can see whether it's the same person.
5. Other checks
We show you how many people have already checked the same photos or the same number on Veritaza, and how many said the person asked them for money.
6. Name and username
We search for the name and the username together with words like "scam", "scammer" and "fraud" on news sites, forums and warning pages.
7. The ID document
If the person sent you a photo of their NIN slip or national ID card, international passport, driver's licence or voter's card, we look for signs of forgery and check whether the ID number has the format of a NIN. We never say that a document is genuine.

What we never do
- We don't show anyone's address, where they live, their partner or their family.
- We don't use facial recognition.
- We don't tell the person that you checked them.
- We don't publish lists of people.

What happens to what you send us
The photos, numbers, texts and the report are deleted after 30 days. We only keep a fingerprint of the photos and numbers (a code that can't be turned back into the photo or the number) for 2 years, so the next person can see whether others have already checked the same profile. Read more.
