I gave my OTP to someone on the phone. What do I do now?

Call your bank immediately, using the number in its app or on your card, and ask them to block the card and the account. Every minute counts, because the OTP is usually used straight away.

The OTP is a one-time code that approves a payment or a login. A scammer who gets it while on the phone with you can often finish a transfer before the call ends.

Banks never need you to read an OTP to them. Anyone who asks for one is not your bank.

What to do now

  1. Call your bank and ask them to block the card, account and online banking.
  2. Change your banking app password and PIN.
  3. Check your recent transactions and note anything you did not make.
  4. Report it at the nearest police station and give the report to your bank.
