Veritaza

Someone from "customer care" is asking for my mobile money PIN or a code. What should I do?

Hang up. Real customer care never asks for your PIN, your password or a code sent to your phone. Anyone who has these can empty your account.

The caller may know your name and say your account will be blocked, that you have won a prize or that a wrong transaction must be reversed. The goal is always the same: your PIN or a one-time code.

What to do

  1. Never say your PIN or a code out loud or in a message.
  2. Hang up and call your provider's official number yourself.
  3. If you already shared it, call your provider straight away to block the account.
  4. Change your PIN.

Frequently asked questions

They knew my name and ID number. Are they really from the company?
No. Personal details can leak or be bought. Knowing your name does not make a caller genuine.
