How do I check if a company is registered with the FSCA?

Search the FSCA's public register of authorised financial services providers for the company's name or FSP number, and check that the person you are dealing with is a representative of that provider. Also check the FSCA's list of public warnings, where known scams are named.

Scammers quote real FSP numbers that belong to other companies, or claim they are "in the process" of registering. The register tells you which name belongs to the number and which products the provider may sell.

How to check

  1. Ask for the company's FSP number and the representative's full name.
  2. Look the number up on the FSCA register and compare the registered name with the one you were given.
  3. Check whether forex, crypto or the specific product is within what the provider is authorised for.
  4. Search the FSCA's public warnings for the name.
  5. Phone the FSCA if the register and the story do not match.
