How can I tell if a MoMo payment message is fake?

Never trust the message itself. Check your balance in the official MoMo menu or app: if the money is not there, the message was fake.

Fake alerts are sent from normal phone numbers or edited screenshots, and they often have small mistakes: a strange sender, wrong spacing, a balance that does not match yours.

Real MoMo alerts come from the provider's official sender name, but even that can be imitated. The balance is the only proof.

How to check

  1. Dial your provider's official short code or open the official app.
  2. Compare the balance with what you had before.
  3. Look at the sender: a normal 10-digit number is a warning sign.
  4. Never release goods because of a screenshot.
  5. Keep fake messages as evidence and report the number.

Frequently asked questions

The buyer is in a hurry and says the money is there. What should I do?
