A caller from 'MTN' asked for my MoMo PIN. What should I do?

Hang up and never share your PIN. Real staff from MTN, Telecel or AT never ask for your MoMo PIN, by phone, SMS or WhatsApp.

Scammers pretend to be customer service, a MoMo agent or a promo team. They say your account will be blocked, you have won a prize or a transaction needs 'confirming', and ask you to dial a code or give your PIN.

With your PIN, they can empty your wallet in minutes.

What to do

  1. Hang up, even if the caller knows your name.
  2. Never dial a code that someone tells you to dial.
  3. If you shared your PIN, change it at once and call your provider's official customer service.
  4. Check your recent transactions.
  5. Report the number to your provider.

Frequently asked questions

The caller knew my name and my last transaction. Isn't that real staff?
No. Scammers can get names and details from leaked data or earlier messages. Only call back using the provider's official number.
