The recruiter only contacts me through Telegram or Messenger. Is that a red flag?
It is a warning sign, especially when the "recruiter" has no company email, no office address and no interview beyond a chat. Real employers can be reached through the company's official website and will not mind if you check.
Chat-only recruiters offer high pay for easy work, hire you within minutes, and soon ask for something: a training fee, a kit, your bank details and ID, or a "task" that requires a deposit. The Telegram account disappears when you ask questions.
What to check
- Look for the job on the company's official website or verified social media.
- Ask for a company email address and a call from an office number.
- Search the company name and the recruiter's name with "scam".
- Never pay anything or share your ID and bank details before a real interview and a contract.
- Check the recruiter's number and messages: job-scam scripts are copied to thousands of people.
Frequently asked questions
- The recruiter sent a company ID. Does that prove anything?
- No. Company IDs are easy to make. Call the company on a number you found yourself.
