Veritaza

My online match says they work abroad, on a ship or with the UN. Should I worry?

These jobs are popular with romance scammers because they explain why the person can never meet you, never video call and never reach their own money. Plenty of real people have these jobs too, so check the story, not the job title.

The story is built so that every problem needs you: bad internet at sea, a blocked bank account during the mission, a fee to go on leave. Sooner or later you are asked to pay for something.

A real person working far away can usually video call now and then, talks about normal everyday things and never needs a stranger to pay their way home.

How to check the story

  1. Ask simple questions about the job and see if the answers stay the same over weeks.
  2. Do a reverse image search on the uniform or work photos.
  3. Ask for a short video call. "Not allowed" for months is a sign.
  4. Never pay for leave, a flight or a release fee. No employer asks a partner for that.

Frequently asked questions

They sent me a photo of a work ID. Is that proof?
No. Work IDs are easy to fake or steal. Veritaza never says a document is genuine; it only looks for signs of forgery.

Want to know if there are warning signs about the person you're chatting to? Veritaza checks the photos, the messages, the number, the email address, the name and the ID document, for TSh 5,000.
