I got a call saying I won a promotion and must pay a fee. Is it real?
No. A real prize does not require you to pay first or share your PIN. Fake promotion calls are one of the most common phone scams in Uganda.
The caller sounds official and may use the name of a telecom company, a bank or a radio station. You "won" money or a phone, but need to pay a registration fee, tax or transport, or dial a code to receive it.
If you did not enter a competition, you did not win one.
What to do
- Do not pay any fee to receive a prize.
- Do not dial codes or share your PIN.
- Check the promotion on the company's official page or customer care.
- Block the number.
Frequently asked questions
- They say the offer ends today. What if I miss out?
- Urgency is a scam tactic. A real prize does not disappear because you took time to check.
