I paid a deposit for a flat and the person disappeared. What can I do?
Call your bank and the 1930 helpline right away, with the UPI transaction ID and the account you paid, then file a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in with the listing, the chat and the payment proof. Also report the listing on the platform and, if the amount is large, visit the police station in whose area the flat is.
Rental scammers often reuse the same number and photos for weeks. Your complaint can connect your case with others and may help freeze the account before it is emptied.
Step by step
- Call your bank and 1930 immediately – time matters most.
- Save the listing, the chat, the number, the UPI ID or account, and the payment screenshot.
- File a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in and note the acknowledgement number.
- Report the listing and the profile on the platform where you found it.
- If you have the flat's address, inform the society or the real owner – they may be receiving other victims.
Frequently asked questions
