Veritaza

What is a "sponsor" or sugar daddy scam?

In this scam someone offers to support you with money every month, but first asks you to pay a small fee: to open an account, to activate the transfer or to join a "sponsor group". The allowance never comes.

These offers spread on Instagram, TikTok and in WhatsApp groups, often aimed at students and young people. Sometimes the "sponsor" also asks for intimate photos, which can later be used for threats.

How to protect yourself

  1. Never pay to receive money. That is the whole trick.
  2. Do not share intimate photos with someone you do not know.
  3. Do not give your mobile money PIN or a confirmation code to anyone.
  4. Leave groups that promise sponsors or easy allowances.
