Why does my match want to move from the dating app to WhatsApp straight away?
Many people simply prefer WhatsApp. But scammers want you off the app quickly, because there they can be reported and blocked. If the move comes in the first few messages, together with fast flirting, be extra careful.
On WhatsApp the scammer can keep chatting even if their dating profile is deleted. It is also harder for you to show the app what happened.
What you can do
- Keep chatting on the app for a while before giving your number.
- Check whether the WhatsApp number is from Tanzania or another country.
- Notice if the profile on the app disappears soon after.
- Run the number through a check before you share anything personal.
