The person's family never comes on calls. Is that a warning sign?

Yes, on a matrimonial site it is. Family involvement is normal and expected, so a match who keeps their parents, siblings and relatives out of every call for weeks is hiding something: a marriage, a different background, or the fact that the profile is fake.

Common excuses: parents are old and do not use video, the family is abroad, there is a "family dispute", or "let us decide first and then involve them". Any one of these can be true once; all of them, every time, is a pattern.

What to do

  1. Ask for a specific family member – a parent, a sibling, an uncle – and a specific time for a video call.
  2. Ask for the name of one relative in India you can meet in person.
  3. Notice whether the person talks about family naturally or avoids the subject.
  4. Slow everything down until the family has been on at least one call.

Frequently asked questions

What if the person really has no family?
Then they will say so clearly, and a friend or colleague can take that place. The problem is not the absence of family – it is the excuses.
