How do I do a reverse image search on my phone?

Save the photo, open Google (the app or google.com in your browser), tap the camera icon in the search bar and choose the photo; Google Lens shows you where the same image appears online. If it shows up under another name or on a stock photo site, the profile is using someone else's photos.

Reverse image search is the single most useful tool against fake profiles, and it is free. It does not recognise faces; it finds the same picture. That means a scammer who uses a photo that has never been posted elsewhere will not show up. No result is a good sign, not proof.

Step by step

  1. Save the profile photo or the photo the person sent you to your phone.
  2. Open the Google app or go to google.com and tap the camera (Google Lens) icon.
  3. Choose the photo from your gallery and wait for the results.
  4. Look for the same photo with a different name, city or job, or on a model or stock photo site.
  5. Try two or three different photos, not only the profile picture.

Frequently asked questions

The photo does not appear anywhere. Is the person real?
It is a good sign, but not proof. Scammers also use private or lightly edited photos. Check the messages, the number and the name too.
Does Veritaza do the same thing?
Check 1 looks for the same photo elsewhere on the internet, and check 5 tells you if other people have already checked the same photos on Veritaza. No face recognition is used.

Want to know if there are warning signs about the person you are talking to? Veritaza checks the photos, the messages, the number, the email, the name and the ID, for ₱199.
