How do I check the person's job and company before marriage?
Ask for the employer's full name and the person's designation, then confirm through the company's official channels: its website, its official phone number or a colleague you can reach independently. Do not rely on an ID card photo, a salary slip or an offer letter sent by the person – all of these are easy to fake.
A genuine person will not mind you checking; they may even offer a colleague's contact or invite you to their office. Someone who gets angry, says the company is "confidential" or keeps changing the job title is giving you an answer.
How to check
- Search the company name: does it exist, where is it, does the website list a phone number?
- Call the official number (not one the person gave you) and ask whether the person works there.
- Look at the person's LinkedIn or other professional profiles and whether colleagues interact with them.
- Compare the lifestyle in the photos with the claimed salary – big gaps are a sign.
- For a government job, ask which department and office, and whether a colleague or senior can confirm it.
Frequently asked questions
- The person sent a salary slip and an ID card. Is that enough?
- No. Documents sent by the person themselves prove nothing. Confirm through the employer directly.
