I got a part-time job offer on WhatsApp for liking YouTube videos. Is it real?
No. This is the task scam: you are paid small amounts for simple tasks like liking videos or rating hotels, then moved to a Telegram group where "premium tasks" require you to deposit money first. The deposits grow, the withdrawals stop, and the "company" disappears.
The first payments are real, and that is the trick. Once you deposit, there is always a "wrong task", a "tax" or a "credit score" problem that needs one more payment before you can withdraw. No company pays people to like videos.
Signs and what to do
- The job came from an unknown number, with no interview and no company you can find.
- You are paid for a few tasks and then asked to deposit money to unlock bigger tasks.
- The group is full of people posting profit screenshots – they are part of the scam.
- Do not deposit anything. Leave the group and block the numbers.
- If you already deposited, call your bank and 1930, and file on cybercrime.gov.in.
Frequently asked questions
- I received money for the first tasks. Can I keep it?
- Yes, but do not deposit anything to get more. That small payment was the bait.
