Veritaza

Why does the person want to move from the dating app to WhatsApp right away?

Scammers push to leave the app early because the app can ban them and warn others, while WhatsApp cannot. Moving later, after a few days of normal chat, is fine; being pushed on day one, often with a reason like "I hardly open this app", is a warning sign.

Once you are on WhatsApp, the scammer also gets your mobile number, which can be used for other frauds later. Many people report that the match's profile on the app vanished a day or two after the move – it was reported or deleted – and only the WhatsApp chat was left.

What to do

  1. Stay on the app until you have had a normal conversation for a few days and ideally a video call.
  2. If you do move, note the mobile number and check it: a virtual number or a foreign country code is a sign.
  3. Save a screenshot of the app profile before it disappears, so you can report it later.
  4. Never share your number with someone who refuses to share theirs or who only gives a Telegram username.

Frequently asked questions

Is Telegram worse than WhatsApp?
Telegram lets people hide their number completely and delete messages for both sides, which scammers like. It is not proof of anything, but be more careful.
